Your New Favorite Christmas Drink

My friend introduced me to this wassail recipe nearly 10
years ago and it’s become a family favorite (thanks, Phil). I make it
throughout the autumn and winter, and everyone asks for the recipe. I’ve made
the addition of the sliced lemon and orange, and I love the subtle citrus
hints. The longer you let this recipe simmer, the better. And if you’re serving
adults, spiking with rum or bourbon is scrumptious! Or, you can set up a “spike
it yourself” bar and allow folks to add their alcohol of choice. I always serve
this wassail when having company over for the holidays. The taste (and smell) is
unbeatable and welcomes your guests as they walk through your front door! Enjoy, and Merry Christmas friends!
Festive Wassail
makes 2 gallons
Ingredients
1 gallon apple cider
½ gallon orange juice
½ gallon cranberry juice
3 oranges
1 lemon
handful whole cloves
a few cinnamon sticks, plus some for garnish
optional rum or bourbon
Directions
Dump apple cider and orange and cranberry juices into a
large pot. Add some cinnamon sticks, an orange stuck with whole cloves, and
some orange and lemon slices. Allow to simmer for at least an hour. Remove citrus slices after an hour or two. Serve with
rum or bourbon if interested! Garnish with sliced orange and a cinnamon stick.
